Soprano Drive's trainer Gary Sweet said this of the All American ...
'I have handled a lot of dogs with speed, but no heart. I have handled dogs with a lot of heart, but no speed. Soprano's got it all. He is one of the best I have ever snapped a lead on and one of the best I will ever get to snap a lead on.'

Soprano Drive - By Gary Guccione
Mix a Molotov female with a concoction that includes Fortress*, plenty of Downing, multiple crosses of Friend Westy-Miss Gorgeous (including son Sand Man and grandson Beau Boogie), Dutch Bahama, and a very bottom line that goes back to an imported Irish bitch with Yellow Printer connections—and what do you have? No, not a Molotov cocktail—but something pretty close.

It’s the pedigree to, not just one, but both of our spotlighted stars this month.
Soprano Drive is headlined here for his incredible 15-race win streak at Southland—which came in the twilight of a great 2007 season at the W. Memphis track, where he also ran second in the Sprint Derby and third in the $10,000 March Madness.

That 14-race win streak that Soprano Drive broke was held by none other than Hall Of Famer EJ’s Douglas, who’d set the mark back in 1993.

Soprano Drive, racing for the Wayne Strong Kennel, boasted a 34-6-3-4 mark in 50 starts at Southland through November. His 15th straight came Nov. 30, when he won by a convincing 9 lengths.

A white dark-brindle male, whelped April 2005, Soprano Drive was bred and is owned by Tony Mills of Abilene, Ks. He’s a son of TNT Star Wars, out of Essie Ecks Drive.

Star Wars—a steady upper division sire—contributes the Fortress* top line (remembering that Fortress’ dam goes back to Big Whizzer through her sire line and to the classic Sand Man-Maythorn Pride cross behind her dam, Miss Hilary). Star Wars’ dam is no less impressive: Greys Stardust—from the Mi Designer mating to Hall Of Famer Representation. Mi Designer has the Hall Of Fame sire line of K’s Flak/Onie Jones, immediately above Beau Boogie daughter Proud Treat. Underneath is the immortal Representation, source of the Dutch Bahama entry and the Share Profit*-Tish The Dish daughter Lear Jet. A second litter by Mi Designer-Representation included All-America Greys Betsy Ross, winner of the Derby Lane Distance Classic.

Essie Ecks Drive (Soprano Drive’s dam) is another addition to the lengthy (and still growing) list of successful Molotov daughters—one of the phenomena that vaulted Molotov into the Greyhound Hall Of Fame last year. The two Downing entries behind Molotov supplement a third entry, found behind Ebegeebe Drive—thus doubling up Downing’s Hall Of Fame son Perceive in Essie’s second and fourth generation.

Ebegeebe Drive, you might recall, was the dam of Mills’ great racer, Elway Drive (by My Rooster), who also dominated Southland in his heyday, then later sired some nice offspring, including 2006 national win champ Darius Stone and Southland Derby champ TBO’s Randy. Ebeegeebe Drive’s dam was former Hollywood record holder EC Seena, who traces back to Yellow Flash in her tail line. Yellow Flash was by Yellow Printer* and the Irish import Miss Broadford*.

In all, Soprano Drive has three Downings (all three through Essie—and two of those through Perceive), four of Downing’s dad Big Whizzer, and two Friend Westy-Miss Gorgeous (one through Beau Boogie, the other through Sand Man).
